Zion

4' x 6' oil on canvas; $8000

This painting was strongly influenced by a visit to Bryce Canyon. The stone outcroppings have a figurative feel to them which I have exaggerated in this painting. Each outcropping was very monolithic in feel and seeing hundreds at one time left an enormous impact on my psyche. In this painting there is a sense of loneliness in the mass grouping of humanistic forms. As if the stone from which they are derived has deemed connection between the individuals impossible. To me this is reflective of the society in which we live where modern forms of communication i.e., the Internet, can actually serve to alienate us from the communities in which we live.
