Life Copius

36”x24” prisma color on black paper; sold

As I began to develop more fluidity in my cut paper pieces, I started to find the discarded shapes as intriguing as the original image. I set about creating images on each of the pieces that related in some way to its shape and the overall concept of the work. I then reassembled the pieces into their original relationships and was delighted by the results. There is a great deal of spontaneity in the image and their haphazard relationship to each other; however, they are still bound in a cohesive overall image. My sculpture background came into play when I began to break through the picture plain and raised the wing pieces up off the surface. This has achieved an element of movement by changing the levels and angles of the individual pieces.
